Franimus
A certain discussion I had today sparked this thought: The more suffering we have in this life, the more joy we will have in Heaven when we are filled with an intimate union of souls with God
Domine ut Videam
could you elaborate on this? Why more joy?
heavenseeker
I understand where you are getting this from but I disagree with you. Being in heaven with God is the most joyfull thing possable and God doesn't play favorites there for one person can't feel more joy than another while being with him. Our sufferings in this life are helpful to our spiritual development only if we use these sufferings to become closer to Christ.
Franimus
it's kinda like the more you starve, the better the food tastes when you finally get to eat... i'm not sayin we should starve ourselves, but we can take a degree of respite in knowing the food will taste really good when we finally eat it
fonebone
suffering is actually a way to greater joy in this life as well. also, suffering out of love increases the charity in a soul. therefore, I'd affirm what you said to be quite sound. When a soul is in Heaven, it is completely filled. however, a soul expanded by Divine charity would naturally have more room in its soul to be filled, so to speak, than someone who "just barely" got to Heaven, so to speak. yes, there's a lot of "so to speaks," but the general idea is, the more you suffer on this earth, the more you are interiorly hollowed out, so the larger the hollow while living on this earth, the larger fulfillment you recieve in Heaven.
