The "altar Call"

I think that a few other people on this thread have summed up very well what the Catholic equivalent of an altar call is (confirmation, saying the creed at mass, etc.). I always understood that an altar call wasn't necessary for salvation, but just maybe a good opportunity 'get saved.' When I was younger, I prayed privately to 'let Jesus become my Lord and Savior of my life' and everyone I knew considered me 'saved' even though it never happened at an altar call. (I do believe what the Church teaches about salvation but the fact is, I was ignorant as a child about what it taught). Anyway, not every denom has altar calls and not every denom teaches that you have to go to an altar call to 'get saved' (although I sometimes think that there is too much emotion going on and some people 'dedicate' their lives to Christ when caught up in the moment and then forget about it a week later. I've seen this happen, but I know it doesn't happen all the time). I think if that were a necessary part of salvation, what about all those cradle Protestants who prayed w/ their parents in private in their homes or something? Think about what you're arguing for. And remember, it's about Jesus, not about 'useless rites and works' such as altar calls so just cuz the Church doesn't have them, as long as we have Jesus there's no problem :)
