Theologian in Training
There's a little of that effect, but the underlying operating systems -- and the concepts behind them -- are very different. A lot of the problems with security in Windows come from features that Microsoft deliberately put into the operating system, long before using the internet was an everyday thing for people. Programs can install other programs, and the operating system. Programs can autorun without user intervention. Documents can run scripting. Generally, many things in MS work because they can access deep levels of the operating system, and if Microsoft changed that, a lot of important applications would stop working. Mac OSX is based on FreeBSD, which is a type of Unix, and Unix has always been a multi-user system, with security based on users only being able to modify their own files. It's also a lot more modern, and built with security concerns in mind.
What is scary, is I was going to say pretty much the same thing. Also, you forget with MS the OS is designed hoping the hardware will work with it, with Macs the two are made together, so there is better integration, and more stability. In MS a lot of the difficulties with virii, spyware, and security breachest have to do with poor "forward thinking" on Microsoft's part, because they don't recognize a problem exists until it is too late. Somehow Mac is better at "forward thinking" and usually discover a problem before it actually becomes a big problem for all their users. For example, when MS release a new service pack or patch, it is because someone has discovered something that exploited the system in some way, when Mac releases a patch, it is because it was discovered before someone discovered something. Now, granted, that is not across the board, but Mac is usually better at finding potential problems before they become a nuisance. Finally, because Macs are structured on Unix, there are less virii written, because not many people know how to write virii that will work on *nix based systems. This is why Linux is also gaining popularity, because, once again, people do not know how to write virii that can cause the same damaging effects as it causes on Windows. Again, not across the board, and there are many that have found ways, but they are the minority not the majority. Until there is wider circulation of Macs and *nix based systems then you will see an increase but I don't think an overwhelming increase as you do with Windows. Just my .02, take it for what it's worth.
Did you import the music into AAC, it makes them more compact but does not decrease the quality.
