beata_virgo_maria
I don't post much on phatmass, but my sister is looking for college next year, and I don't know of many catholic colleges to recomend to her. Does anyone know of any faithful Catholic colleges /or colleges with a faithful/active Catholic newman center? I only have these so far. Any ideas would be great! • Aquinas College (Nashville, Tennessee) • Ave Maria College (Ypsilanti, Michigan) • Ave Maria University (Naples, Florida) • Belmont Abbey College (Belmont, North Carolina) • Benedictine College (Atchison, Kansas) • DeSales University (Center Valley, Pennsylvania) • Franciscan University of Steubenville (Steubenville, Ohio) • Magdalen College (Warner, New Hampshire) • Our Lady of Corpus Christi (Corpus Christi, Texas) • Our Lady of Holy Cross College (New Orleans, Louisiana) • St. Gregory’s University (Shawnee, Oklahoma) • University of Dallas (Irving, Texas) • University of St. Thomas (Houston, Texas) (edited to fix spelling mistake) Edited October 5, 2006 by beata_virgo_maria
Thy Geekdom Come
Franciscan University doesn't have a Newman Center and I wouldn't recommend it unless your sister is charismatic and/or wants to become a catechist.
IcePrincessKRS
Christendom College in Front Royal is a very faithful liberal arts college (and if your sister decides to become a nun they will forgive any loans she takes out with them)... they do not have a Newman Center, though. beata_virgo_maria
Thanks, I meant to say only a faithful newman center if the University wasn't Catholic. But, I am trying to find names of faithfull Catholic University's also.

EcceNovaFacioOmni
Ave Maria College in Michigan is no longer taking applications from what I understand. They are in the process of moving to Ave Maria University in Florida. Really, you can find faithful Catholics almost anywhere. The local state university parish used to be liberal where I live and it was where the Neuman Center was based. What happened? Another, I presume more orthodox, Catholic club was founded on campus as an alternative.
goldenchild17
It's definitely not a Catholic school by any means, but University of Arizona has a good Newman Center and other Catholic groups. That's what my friends tell me anyways, I don't go to any of them myself.
xTrishaxLynnx
I like this thread... I'm looking to transfer to a Catholic college... I can't stand the community and state colleges around here. There's also St. Joseph's College here in Maine, but I looked at it and personally I'm not interested in applying there. I'm not sure what your sister is looking for, so maybe you can add it to your list. hopeful1
hey, i don't know if you were looking at any schools in Florida, but i'm at University of Central Florida and we have an awesome Catholic Campus Ministry. You're welcome to PM me about it if you're interested.
xTrishaxLynnx
I'm looking for a Catholic college with a good Psychology program, that possibly offers a program in Counseling as well.

[/quote] I actually met someone who wanted to do graduate school in counseling or something at Franciscan U. Apparantly you can study it from a Christian focus. If your sister would like to join me, I'm at the University of Dayton (udayton.edu). Don't judge by the name, it's actually a Catholic school run by the Society of Mary. I am thinking about trying to transfer, however, to Notre Dame (nd.edu).

I'll have to look further into what they offer as far as Counseling. Sounds pretty sweet though.
Eia
Does anyone reading this thread attend University of Dallas? I live in the area and am seriously thinking of pursuing Masters-level studies there. I'm looking for the insider's perspective.
xTrishaxLynnx
An insider's point of view sounds like something that might help me... if anyone cares to share. I have considered Franciscan, though it was not the first college I thought of transferring to. I had heard a lot about another college I was looking at from a friend who goes there, but decided against that one because it didn't seem like they were as rooted in the faith. Franciscan seems like a great school, maybe I'm just being too hesitant about it?
