zunshynn
I was asked today to refer someone to a counselor or something to help her daughter who has been getting into to trouble, becoming sexually involved, etc. The best place I could think of to help her was a youth group/ youth pastor from a local protestant church, because I've seen this youth group turn tons of kids around who were involved in some really bad stuff to totally reject it for Christ. And even though I would have preferred to point her to the local Catholic parish, but I honestly think right now at least, this other youth group is doing a better job of helping kids get out of that stuff. So anyway, was it wrong to point them in the direction of a protestant church in this case?
Cam42
I was asked today to refer someone to a counselor or something to help her daughter who has been getting into to trouble, becoming sexually involved, etc. The best place I could think of to help her was a youth group/ youth pastor from a local protestant church, because I've seen this youth group turn tons of kids around who were involved in some really bad stuff to totally reject it for Christ. So anyway, was it wrong to point them in the direction of a protestant church in this case?
I think so. The reason being that no matter how well the intentions of the youth group and the minister, he is lacking in the fullness of Sacred Truth. You are not simply sending someone to help with an addiction (sexual), but offering them spiritual guidance. That applies if the girl is Catholic. IF the person is Catholic then yes, I would say that it is wrong. If she is a non-Catholic, then you have an obligation to at least evangelize the person. If she doesn't respond, then you should follow the advice of Matthew 10:4.
