Well since the last thread on this topic was stolen, I want to repost what I can remember that I posted earlier.

At my college, at the beginning of the school year Campus Ministry asks for volunteers to help be musicians, Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. I had been asked by my parish to be a EMHC when I was 15 or 16 even though I hadn't been Confirmed yet, but after discerning that, I didn't feel ready. I found out later that they had already obtained permission from the Bishop to let me become an EMHC. Well this year, I finally felt ready.

I was able to help distribute Holy Communion at Mass last night in our Chapel. As I was helping to distribute Holy Communion my thought process went more along these lines.

"Body of Christ"

*Oh my gosh I'm holding Jesus*

"Body of Christ"

*I can't believe I'm helping others recieve Jesus*

"Body of Christ"

*Please Lord don't let me drop You*

and so on and so on. It felt like my First Communion all over again. It was such a blessing and great feeling to help in such a way. I just wanted to share.

God bless-

It is an awesome feeling. I'm glad I didn't do it until now though. Am I wrong in saying that it's a fun thing to do?

I was an ExM yesterday. It's always so amazing to help Father place Jesus in the hands of the faithful (or on the tongues).

In fact I think it a good thing you thought it was fun. God should bring joy to our hearts even in times of suffering. Last night I attended a Pro-life forum, and Fr. Bill who gave the first talk took a moment and walked up and down the isle throwing Hershey Kisses to everyone who made noise. Then he stopped and said (paraphrasing) "How many of you get that excited when you go to mass and recieve the Eucharist? Do you not think that Christ body is present, how much more important is that than a piece of candy."

I do not believe that Fr. Bill was condeming those of us  who yelled for the candy, nor that we should yell and cream for the Eucharist during Mass. Rather he was making a point of the interior joy and desire we should have for it. I look at it the same way in your case. The Eucharist is soething we desire more than anything, and having joy in taking part in a special way that gift from God is nothing to wrong nor to be ashamed of.

While I too am a trained EMHC I prefer when given the chance to be an alte server. I find great joy in helping to set up the Alter in preparation for the mass, and washing the priest hands.

I didn't mean to steal it...it was just a thread with a head and no body...so I made it a body.

And it should only be the deacon or priest to minister the Body of Christ, unless there is a dire need.

I understand that. That was one of the classifications that we follow. That if there is not a need, we are not needed. Unfortunately, our campus only will have a priest on hand for the mass and no other priests or deacons. That's where we step in to help.
