Predestination, Predetermination, Free Will

I've been reading up the Catholic Church's beliefs about predestination. What is it? How is it different than the various Protestant beliefs about it?

Either the information is too much or too brief.

What prompted all of this was my reading of Ex 10:1, "Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh, for I have made him and his servants obdurate in order that I may perform these signs of mine among them"

Made? Was there no free will involved here? So my journey began.

Now I have a better understanding of the Catholic position and a vague understanding of the Protestant position, mainly the Calvinistic.

So what is the Catholic position? What is the Protestant position? How are they different? What is a good resource for a novice to use to understand better?

Check out the Defense directory, I know that there is some really good stuff on Predestination/Free will.

You might also want to use the Search option, I seem to remeber reading some interesting things from previous threads.

There are some great articles here:

Robert Sungenis' "Not by Faith Alone" is in my opinion by far the greatest contemporary work on the subject. But it's probably more than what you're looking for right now. And he doesn't seem to be too popular round these parts for some reason. But it's a suggestion.
