I read this in the newspaper this morning, and now it has world attention, do you believe that if a lawmaker supports abortion or Euthenasia, they shouldn't recieve Holy Communion?

Of course, one politician in the diocese, U.S. Rep. David Obey, has already come out with the tired I-vote-my-conscience line, telling the Associated Press that he doesn't respond to "a set of marching orders given by any church hierarchy, prelate or associated lobby group."

Anybody get the idea that "U.S. Rep. David Obey" should change his name to

"U.S. Rep. David Dis-Obey"

- not funny--- Very serious, mortal and damning consequences will be the result of his open rebellion.....

I do agree with all of this since anyone continuing in mortal sin should not be receiving the Eucharist. However, what about capital punishment? Shouldn't we also then say that those supporting death in another form are committing a mortal sin? I know that those in the Church don't seem as united in pro-life for criminals as abortion. I know that criminals aren't the most vulnerable in society obviously and we are to protect those who are first, but isn't this still a mortal sin? And if so shouldn't we then issue a statement on this? And then should we continue to issue a statement on every other issue that can be supported politically that is a mortal sin?
