I'd love a chess tourney. dUst, you can't ignore this demand!!

Seriously though, it would be a great tournament. I bet it would be pretty tight for second place.

Who i've played so far, results of the games, and how difficult

Aloysius: I won, of course, over the overthrown CA mod. we had interesting chat time. he was a real pain in the butt, mostly because of stupid mistakes by me

CrossCut: Fairly easy win here. sorry claire

Farsight One: definetly the best person i've played on this site as of yet. the game isn't over, but at this point i have the upperhand. He also made a critical mistake that would have given him the edge

dUSt: easy

Era Might: Not over, but he only has king and pawns, whereas i have queen, rooks, and a bishop. Still not as easy as playing dUSt.

You can move forward two spaces with your first move and kill an opposing piece forward if it's there. This isn't a glitch. This is a rule I learned when I first started playing chess.

ROFL

I had dUSt over a barrel yesterday, but I made one stupid move, and let him back into the game, so I lost yet again.

wikipedia specifically says that's a misconception and that it's not a correct rule
Pawns are unusual in movement and use. Unlike all the other pieces, pawns may not move backwards. Normally a pawn moves by advancing a single square, but the first time each pawn is moved from its initial position, it has the option to advance two squares. Pawns may not use the initial two-square advance to jump over an occupied square, or to capture.
ardillacid, who are you kidding, that game was riddled with random stupid moves by both of us... you just got lucky. NOW you shall meet your true doom...

The Official Laws of Chess:
http://www.fide.com/official/handbook.asp?level=EE101

Law 3.7 b
on its first move the pawn may move as in (a); alternatively it may advance two squares along the same file provided both squares are unoccupied, or

Law 3.7 c
the pawn may move to a square occupied by an opponent`s piece, which is diagonally in front of it on an adjacent file, capturing that piece.

I do not recognize the World Chess Federation as having any authority.

Besides, where do all these "Bishops" on the chess board come from? Sounds like they've been illegally and schismatically consecrated. And who do you think has been doing that? The World Chess Federation. Probably in cohoots with Archbishop Milingo.

the initial two-square move as well as the en passante capture were added by good and faithful Catholics in the thirteenth century. the initial two-move was always only allowed if there was not a peice in either of the two squares in front of the pawn, as far as anything I've seen says. The World Chess Federation derives its pawn moves from these faithful Catholics.
