N/A Gone
This is really dangerous. As someone who works in a business situation i see this alot in protestant friends. It perverts our understanding of God. thanks for the smile L_D....wanna help me on the fix-me thread?
Laudate_Dominum
yeah, it reminds me of something I was reading the other day about how the west is obsessed with economics and materialism, I can't argue there. the fellow's point was that spiritual values are necessary for the future of humanity and it is precisely the American way that screws this up. In light of this, I can see the guy's point. I mean only in America could you even have such an absurd concept.
hmm... you know I'm all about your heavy theological discussions. I was about to call it a night though.. hopefully I'll have some time to get deep really soon. Fides_et_Ratio
we discussed this in my Scripture class yesterday... the new cover story for TIME magazine is along the same lines. The prof was really good about explaining "this is what happens very easily when you take just a few passages of Scripture and ignore the rest... or when you ignore the entire history (/tradition) of Christianity." He related it really well to the messages of the prophets
It can be masterfully argued that the real driving force behind the protestant revolt was greed and worldly ambition. The early history of protestantism is pretty revealing too. Scary and perverse actually. I wish these topics came up more.
I ran across hints of stuff along those lines when I was reading up on the reformation before I converted. It was one of the things that convinced me that the "reformers" were not as good-hearted as they'd been painted in all my Sunday School classes growing up. If they were wrong to have left in the first place, I figured I had no business continuing to affirm them. So here I am.

Romans1513
I read the (Newsweek?) article about this a few days ago. It really bothered me how they use John 10:10 "I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly". Life abundantly here does not mean rich!!! Didn't they ever read the beatitudes? ~Katie Edited September 17, 2006 by Romans1513
