Brother Cadfael is my hero: welsh, detective AND gardener :)

He sounds awesome, but I've never heard of him. What's he from?

The Priest (I can't remember his name) from the movie 'The Cardinal' and Fr. Michael William Logan from Alfred Hitchcock's 'I Confess'.

Brother Cadfael was the main character in the "Brother Cadfael mysteries", a series of murder mystery novels set in medieval Shrewsbury, written by Ellis Peters.

Whilst the character of Cadfael, a Welshman, is fictional, the Abbey is not. Although destroyed at the Reformation, the church is presently in use as a Church of England parish.

For several years the novels were dramatised and broadcast on British tv. The role of Cadfael was played by Derek Jacobi.

The Wikipedia article is to be found here.

Love and prayers,

I didn't realize Frodo was a priest. I mean certainly he's a Christ-like figure in LOTR, but I don't remember hearing about priests being in Middle-Earth. The Istari maybe?

I also forgot about the bishop from Les Miserables and the priest from I Confess.

Brother Cadfael isn't a priest, I don't believe. He joined the Abbey in Shrewsbury after a career in the crusades and was possibly considered too old for preparation for ordination.

Tolkien protrayed Christ as Priest, Prophet, and King in the LotR.

Frodo - Priest
Gandalf - Prophet
Aragorn - King

It was a bit of a stretch on my part to say he played a priest.

The priest's name was Father/Msgr/Archbishop/Cardinal-Elect Stephen Fermoyle.

He is my favorite, although I have a soft spot for two others as well....

1. Alfeo Card. Quarengi from "The Cardinal" (played by Raf Valone)

2. Father/Msgr/Cardinal John Flaherty from the movie "Monsignor" (played by Christopher Reeve.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Monsignor Hugh O'Flaherty from "The Scarlet and The Black."

Is that the Flying Nun or possibly one of "God's Geese?"
