KnightofChrist
No, I do not believe it is necessary for salvation.
So.. we can disobey our Lord Jesus Christ and still go to heaven? By your logic we can...
Nicodemus said to him, "How can a person once grown old be born again? Surely he cannot reenter his mother's womb and be born again, can he?" Jesus answered, "Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. What is born of flesh is flesh and what is born of spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I told you, 'You must be born from above.'
Now, you may say that when Christ says "water" He means the birth of the Flesh, however if that is true this would be all babies murdered by Abortion, or who die before they are born go to hell.
The thief on the cross was never baptized.
The Thief was baptized, by Baptism of desire, or even perhaps Baptism of blood because it is the shedding of one's blood for their faith of Christ, the theif no doubt gave his life to Christ before his death, so perhaps the shedding of his blood was for his faith in Christ as well.
baptism is a public ordinance to show others your new found faith in Jesus Christ.
So its just a symbol? It couldnt be where the Holy Spirit blesses you and desends opon you, marking you with the mark of God, that is making you His child? Like Christ's baptism. Its nothing like that at all? Its just a symbolic "pubic ordinance"? Sounds very depressing to think of Holy Baptism as only a symbolic ordinance. Amazing isnt, we Catholics are up down for our symbolism by non-catholics, but some of those same non-catholics think of Baptism one of the MOST Holiest gives of Our Lord, as only a symbol. Sad really sad.
One does not become born again via being splashed, else why shouldnt a priest go to a public swimming pool and baptize all the heathens?
Baptism is Water and THE SPIRIT! WATER AND THE SPIRIT! And people who go to public swimming pools are heathens? What?

And if Christ died before the thief, the Limbo of the Fathers would have been destroyed by Christ and everyone in it set free. So if the thief died after Chirst, no the thief would not have gone to limbo of the fathers, and would have gone straight to heaven.
