John The Baptist

When John the Baptist baptizes Jesus he seems to know who he is. Then in jail he acts as though he doesn't. What's the deal with that? The Bible seems to contradict itself.

I think it would be safe to say that since Mary and Elizabeth were good friends, and relatives, and probably spent time together, as is seen when Mary goes to visit Elizabeth, that John the Baptist and Jesus not only knew each other but were great friends growing up.

The fact is that there are conflicts that run throughout scripture, and that is why it is important to look at the whole of scripture in the framework of tradition before making an assessment of what it means.

I hope this helps a bit. God bless.
