Chevelle is Christian?

Are they the guys who sing The Red? Maybe I am thinking of the wrong band.

yeah they do sing 'The Red'.

They 'may' be Christian. They supposedly have Christian members - and produce Christian songs - but are on a secular label.

I don't know a lot of history behind them, but I was first introduced to them as a Christian band

I guess that is sort of the story of Evanescence right? I think I just want to believe "Bring me to life" is Christian based even though they have retracted. Oh well.

Chevelle apparently released its early work under a Christian label, but now, who knows? I know they are from the northwest suburbs of Chicago, so they get a lot of local airtime.

Yep! That's a Yamaha right? 1000? Is it riding weather there or has winter hit fullblown? Binary, huh, ok what's your geek code? :P

Yeah, that's an R1, but that's not me in the picture. Winter has hit full blast in Chicago (we had our first snowstorm of the season on Sunday), but apparently the CSBA is promoting "Frozen Chosen" rides, which are rides when the temperature is below freezing, so there are some people who will ride in this weather.

Lounge Daddy

Ok, I am old school.

I loved the Living Sacrifice album “nonexistent” (original release 1992), Brainchild (industrial music around 1995) was amazing, and the old POD stuff (ten years ago, when they leaned a bit more hip-hop than metal) rocked! The POD song with Tourniquet, “Spineless”, is very cool.

Tourniquet is also a very good Christian metal band. Oh… and also Mortification.

If you can find the deathmetal band Paramecium … buckle up. This was a very melodic, slow, grinding Christian deathmetal band from Australia. The only problem I had with them was the lyrics… a very misguided anti-Catholic message there. This is why I stopped listening to exclusively Christian music; some of these bands offended my sensitivities as much as many secular artists.

Also Christian punk bands Crashdog (from Chicago), The Lead (great underground punk band from Mexico), and The Blamed may interest you.

A classic Christian punk band is The Crucified … but again the problem of the anti-Catholic message in a few songs. Still, good music. ;)

Happy hunting ;)

Lounge Daddy - we must have been listneing to music in the same era! I prefered the hardcore guys like Focused and Unashamed (we were friends with them since we lived in So Cal then) and we used to see POD frequently when they were still somewhat unknown. I was never into Mortification or Paramecium but my brothers certainly were!

I've mellowed out in my old age and don't listen to hardcore and punk much but when I'm craving somehting heavier than modern rock I still enjoy Kutless and Seventh Day Slumber (the mentioned 12 Stones, Chevelle, Blindside are very cool too!)

And also...

Carrie - you can buy most of these albums at the larger regular music stores (sometimes discount stores, I bought my 12 stones and Chevelle at target) or online at amazon or borders etc.

Socalscout - I'd recommend logging onto Christian Rock.net and listening online. They play the majority of the bands mentioned here and have the lyrics and links to their sites. I think they sell the music there too. Have fun! There's lots of great stuff for you!

I have had a lot of luck finding my old music at musicstack.com (http://www.musicstack.com)

Revolutionoflove – you were friends with Unashamed? Do you know what they are doing these days?

I have never listened to Blindside and the others you listed … but I just may check them out. ^_^

Ya, I have mellowed out, too.

For old-time sake I am listening to Tourniquet “Drinking from the Poisoned Well” followed by The Blamed “Just because”.

We need some Catholic hard-chore, metal, and punk.

(Mother Mary… please? Pray with us for this?)
