KnightofChrist
While it appears that Christians and Catholics agree on some things... Trinity, Satan is evil, etc... The problem is that Roman Catholic teaches another Christ and another gospel. Heres the BIG difference... Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. The Roman Catholic church still teaches that salvation comes by faith + works + membership in it's church + the ingestion of it's sacraments.
See what I mean man, just like Alice in Wonderland. Cow of Shame
no one at any time gets uncomfortable when the gospel comes up.
I don't know...that acid reflux is killer. I always take a few tums to keep the gospel down, myself.
Jaime
Dont change the subject. I know thats popular around here everytime the uncomfortable fact of the gospel comes up for some.

Ok Youve read the Bible. Tell me TWO THINGS you learned from the book of HEBREWS. Dont cheat now...do this off the top of your head.
*tap tap tap* Is this thing on? Hello!! Budgie!! homeschoolmom
But the topic of this thread is what we hold in common, not the lessons from the book of Hebrews. Thanks.

scardella
Ok, let's start over! Hi Budge, for the sake of ecumenism and dialogue for the reunification of the Church, would you like to offer a theological point that we hold in common?
Aloysius
this is why dialogue prooves so difficult with these phroum charecters. dialogue by definition must begin with an understanding of the things you hold in common. they think that there is one essential thing that we do not hold in common and therefore refuse to admit that we do, in fact, hold anything in common. but you have to start from where you agree because then those points at which you agree the Catholic Church believes we are saved by GRACE ALONE through FAITH, faith and grace both being the free gifts from God that we do not earn or deserve; faith being similar to the free gift of a puppy which must be fed and sustained by good works lest it die and destroy the pathway for grace. sola gratis. sola gratis. sola gratis. that's Catholic Doctrine. oh and... hmm... off the top of my head as a non-bible-memorizer Hebrews teaches that Christ's sacrifice was once and for all and discusses alot about Christ's sacrifice fulfilling all the sacrifices of the old testament. basically it's themed after the sacrifice of Christ if I remember correctly (though I don't quite attempt to categorize and seperate my knowledge of what the scriptures say into books/verses to spit out when questioned)

Ive read the CCC, I know what you just stated is wrong. [b]1129 The Church affirms that for believers the sacraments of the New Covenant are necessary for salvation.
