I was going to put that, but I didn't think it was very common, so I figured somebody would mention her if they wanted to. which you did, obviously. Go figure.

But it's interesting because I've not heard a lot of these other ones.

There's also another lesser known one in Poland, but I can't remeber the name.

Our Lady of Czestochowa? That's the same as the Black Madonna. I knew I should have put the other name!

Our Lady of Consolation. The national shrine is near where I live.

You're not too far from me then. Were you at the big celebration for the Assumption? I was there.

I absolutely LOVE the statue just opposite of Our Lady of Consolation... I've never been more moved. "All ye who pass by this way, see if there is any sorrow like unto mine." (or something to that effect)... I could kneel and pray in front of her there all day.

(I also LOVE the relief downstairs of the Mass being celebrated for the Poor Souls in Purgatory... if you're facing the altar, it's to the right... it's an amazing depiction of the Mass)

I don't think so! I think the different ones just help many of us to connect with Mary. But that doesn't mean that just because you don't have a particular devotion to a certain Madonna that you have any less devotion to Our Lady. I mean, that's what its all about.

Like I am particularly drawn to Our Lady as she's depicted as the Madonna of the Streets. Mostly because of the sheer simplicity of her beauty and grace.

I think for me, it just captures her abandonment to God's will, her poverty, and her loving motherhood. But it's not really the particular image that matters... they're just reminders, sort of.

An interesting thing about the Madonna della Strada (of the Streets): It was actually, from what I understand, just a poor young girl holding her baby brother, but when people saw it they immediately got to thinking it was supposed to be Mary holding Jesus, and that's how it became the Madonna that it is. I think I like that too... That sometimes Mary and Jesus can be seen in the places we least expect to find them.

But yeah, don't think, well if I don't have a favorite, I don't like Mary enough.

Ash Wednesday

My favorite title of Our Lady is Our Lady Star of the Sea.
