Can you read? This board is not for debating. If it is an issue close to your heart start a thread on the debate table, otherwise go away.

This is one reason why I just don't drink, at least not more than a glass of wine or something. Pretty much, as long as you retain your (normal) good judgement you're fine, but it's easier for someone else to judge this than yourself when you're drinking, so one suggestion is, when drinking, have a friend let you know when you should stop

I agree completely. Let us not be deceived, then, but drink the fruit the Lord has given us, for, "thy presses shall burst out with new wine" (Proverbs 3:10).

alright. Here's the deal. If you drink enough that you get drunk, you have sinned. If on purpose, then through that purpose, but if on accident, through not avoiding the occasion of sin.

Being drunk is relative. If you are laughing alot and having a grand old time, you aren't drunk. If you are passing out or saying inappropriate things, you are. It's all about control, and different people have different levels of control. One person will get drunk off of one beer, another will drink a bottle of scotch and be none the worse for wear.
So, know thyself and thy limits and avoid those things that might lead thee to sin.

One would want to make sure that this friend wasn't going to be drinking and would be responsible (kind of obvious). On the other hand it would smell of elderberries if your friend told you to stop drinking and you didn't listen and then he/she had to deal with a drunk person (clean up after you...get you home...take responsibility for you...baby sit you etc).

I'm dangerous enough sober....

Seriously, every person is different. The trick is to know your limits. Once it starts affecting you (slurred speech, slow reaction time, change in behavior), then the line has already been crossed.

I'd been told it is "the point of hilarity" that is the limit in drinking alcohol.

Certainly, drinking in order to get drunk (whether you succeed or not) is a mortal sin in the same way that lusting is adultery. I'd say it's a mortal sin if you're drinking and you know that you're close to getting drunk and do nothing against curbing yourself, whether you originally intended to get drunk or not. However, if you're intention is to drink but not get drunk, but you inadvertantly find yourself drunk somehow, I'd say that's probably not a mortal sin. I'm just not sure how that'd happen unless someone slips something in your glass or it's something of unknown alcohol content (eg a punch that's really punchy). Obviously, if you're coerced into drinking alcohol, that would not be a mortal sin either.

I got drunk on accedent once. I was drinking a new drink a Calimocho, it was a Spanish drink half red wine half coke, anyway I had only a couple in a hour, and then a third over the third hour. Usually this would be no problewm at all in terms of beers, but at the end of the third drink it all hit me at once, and I was plastard. So just a point it can happen. The intention to get frunk was not their therefore not a mortal sin, and since by the time I realize something wasn't normal it was too late, I couldn't stop it. Venial sin I can still grant though.

The funny thing about alcohol is that if you normally drink say, beer & have 3 & you know you are fine with it...but then another day drink 3 mixed you drinks that you never had before(with similar alcohol content)...You will be more intoxicated because your body will not be used to it...Just a thought....  :drunk:
