mp15
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Ignatius Bible. A very good version in my opinion. Here is a little info. http://shop.catholic.com/cgi-local/SoftCar....html?E+scstore
Richard
The one I rdered is the RSV reference edition Bible (published by Cambridge University Press - ISBN: 0521513073) Can someone shed any light on whether this one is any good or not? I'll cancel the order and get another if it's not! :)
Ellenita
Cmom, thanks! Yes I've been looking for the old version. I was just amazed that I was sensible enough to check the inside of the revised version - you would think it would be OK given that it's the 'same translation', but I couldn't see the catholic church as being listed so I assume the revised edition is not approved. Of course this means that I've got to visit the bookshop at Westminster Cathedral.... ......just waiting til my finances have recovered from Christmas 'cos I know I won't be able to stop at one book!!! :D I'm amazed at how different the NIV and the Jerusalem versions are though - the 'interpretation' of some identical verses could be completely different because of the way the English is structured. BLAZEr
Richard, I am not sure if the RSV that you have is the Catholic Edition or not . . . do you? The Ignatius Bible is the RSV Catholic edition. I am not sure of the one that you ordered, I can't find it.
Richard
I'll just wait and see when it arrives, I think. Even if it's not the Catholic version, it should be interesting reading. Thanks for all the advice! :D
Richard
...if it isn't, then it's a trip to the little Catholic repository opposite the big mosque for me!
BLAZEr
Okay, Richard, from what I can tell, that version does not have all the books of the Bible. It is missing the Old Testament books that Protestants call "apocrypha." Here's the Ignatius Bible from Amzon.uk http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0...2507422-4990847 And here is another RSV Catholic edition published by Collins. It's not available on Amazon.co.uk but here is the ISBN: 0005331943
