Doing your best in college

Give everything your best shot. They tell kids here that they can do 2 of the following three things: Sleep, eat or study. The sad part is if you give it 100% (i.e. 8.5 hours of sleep, 3 meals a day or 3 hours per hour of class studying) you can't do it all and still live.

My school is one of those that is ranked as "school where students never stop studying." And that is true. We Catholic's (well, anyone really) have it easy if we go to the early Mass on Sunday because they we are already up and working by 10 instead of sleeping till noon.

The big deal of school is time management, not studying harder. It is just setting apart the time to study. Intro classes shouldn't be too hard, just work as far ahead as possible, try to like your classes, work in groups on problem sets (for math and science nerds like me, for non-math science nerds it is the same thing as reading... though reading in groups isn't as fun as doing chemistry with a girl you secertly have a crush on... perhaps I say too much).

And never forget the two most important things. Well three really. Always set an alarm. And...

It could always be worse (you could be taking the classes on a boat in the ocean during a nasty storm)

Duct tape fixes anything and everything for at least some length of time (it even works as a liver for about... 1 millisecond.)

Set multiple alarms...because sometime they're bound to fail. My roommate and I had four set last year, and only one went off. That one was the tv. Unfortunately, the dvd player was on, so it was a silent blue screen. Luckily, I'm a light sleeper and heard others moving around the dorm. Record time getting ready that morning!

When you're out of duct tape, prayer is a pretty good substitute.

Also, it's my second year of college and today was my first day. Almost as overwhelming as last year, but not quite. It'll help when you get into a routine with things and everything isn't so new. For one thing, after a while, when the newness wears off, things around you aren't so distracting...unless you're like me and can find anything to do to procrastinate...BAD HABIT! Break that before it starts if you can!!
