Doing your best in college

In high school, I tried to be thorough in completing assignments. I started college today and I have too much work to put forth the same effort on every assignment that I did in high school, it seems. Would those with more experience say that in college, you can't worry about giving everything 100% unless you want to spend every moment studying?

Don't ask me... i'm a nerd... i did spend every moment studying...well maybe not every  moment

dude- you will get out only as much as you put in...

yes, work hard, study hard, pray hard, rest, lather, rinse, repeat.......

odd post... no offense..

PS- the *real* world is harder....

There is no way to go through life but to commit yourself 100% to doing your very best. Anything less is a waste of your and others' time...and in this particular instance, your or your parents' money.

You only started college today. Give it some time, it won't seem so overwhelming after a while. But that won't be because you've stopped doing your best on assignments, it will be because you have grown and evolved and risen to meet the challenge.

But yes, I felt the same way when I started college. Then I felt the same way when I started medical school. Then I felt petrified again when I had to start studying for my first licensing exam. But you know what? Things have always fallen into place. So even if I stress out, I don't worry. It became easier when I started to truly believe in God and trust that He'd help me. Things will fall into place for you, as well. You just have to trust that God will help you succeed. You'll be fine.

if it gets too overwhelming, you might have picked the wrong major... remember, you should (eventually) like what you're studying (er, like the classes that are for your major, not core classes)
I love my major, it's easy for me, so I don't put very much effort in... but I'm still putting in about as much effort in than I did in HS, or more (although my HS grades were bad and unrelated to my major)

nice triple-post! haha, way to double your post count in one shot!

Try your best man.

College is not just about getting the best marks, it's about become a better person, intellectually, socially and spiritually.

Don't neglect the last two, it's the best time to form your personality and friends.

Well of course it feels like alot. New people, new work, new place to live. I felt like that at first. I had always had my own room so the lack of privacy in the begining was a bit unnerving. I ended up with a 4.0 and a bunch of new friends. I am actualy packing for my sophmore year. Same room and roommate (this is important, if you dont like the person your staying with it can make life worse than tuesday's mystery meat special). Just be persistant but steady in your work. Perhaps you can try what I did, finishing all the papers to an 'acceptable' level and then go through each and make it a 'great' level. That way you not only have the sense that it wasnt too much but it alows you to turn everything in at least should you not get to neatening every one.

I really apologize for having triple-posted. My browser had shown me as my post not being able to be added to the thread, and I tried to do it twice more before giving up.

Agreed.

Its overwhelming at first for sure. Try hard, but don't work yourself sick. You will find that there are times when there are some things you just don't have the time to finish--use the few minutes between classes to at least skim readings if you can't do them earlier than that. Do your best and it will be good enough, try your hardest at the things that are really going to make an impact on your grades, papers, tests, quizzes, (and in some classes participation); try and finish the rest, but if you don't get to it all before the class in question don't beat yourself up over it--you'll get to it before midterms and finals. Sometimes I think that certain professors don't realize that you have classes other than theirs when they pile you with so much work in one night. I'm not saying slack off, of course, I'm just being realistic. I remember my college study habits all too well. lol

I do much less work in college than I did in high school and I get better grades. I don't think I've learned much except that I'm really good at writing papers about books I haven't read.

Don't worry so much on the first day... the first day is always daunting and seeing the whole syllabus all at once seems crazy. Just take it slow and get a good schedule/routine going and studying and writing papers will become a lot easier... but don't think about everything all at once-- just one day/class at a time.
