kujo
Many of you made good points; however, I find that we need to look no further than the Sudan, Rwanda and other places in Africa to find that genocide is not some distant nightmare; rather, it is alive and well in places all over the world. Similarly, feticide and islamofacism have claimed tens of millions of lives. Basically, why hypothesize about Hitler when there is more than enough contemporary evil to fight? dairygirl4u2c
I guessed the purpose of this poll within seconds. I know the Just War theory and I subscribe to it. I also subscribe to logic and a belief that we as humans don't know the future. And this: "If God is with us, who can stand against?" Only the dead have no hope. Your poll is absurd, unrealistic; I chose none of the options.
I agree it's not very likely, at least today. But it is possible. It is very possible that at some point in time an evil force would far outweigh a good force and fit the situation above. Also, even if I agreed with the statement that it's so unlikley so as to be not worth speculating because there's always hope, I might wonder if that could be applied to abortion. There is always hope that the pro-life would win an abortion war. "If God is for us..." Your only argument would have to be that the situation I posed is certainly always possible, but that the abortion war is definite as not possible. If that's the case, I simply don't buy it based on the premises you used to brush aside my hypothetical. Again that thre's always hope. In fact, I'd be more willing to say taht we'd win an abortion war than we would an overwhelming dictator. I think the only way you can be consistent is to say you would not fight against Hitler. And it's not just be as a non-Catholic saying that, even Jeff who is a reputable phatmasser believes that.
