Petrus
When am I ever gonna have to use math in the priesthood? 1. Calculate the number of hosts to use at mass based on the congregation 2. Count the money from the collection and help with parish (or monastery) finances. 3. Count votes in the papal election (when you're a cardinal) 4. Calculate the penance of people based on the type and number of their sins in confession (Mortal*10+Venial=5*OurFather+HailMary+.5*GloryBe)
phatcatholic
rev, since u've already turned it in, i'll finish it for you Given: width is w length is 3w we know that: length * width = area of a rectangle therefore....... Formula #1: 3w * w = A also Given: (3w - 2)(w - 2) = A - 36 so, substitute in for A what it equals (see formula #1), and we get Formula #2: (3w - 2)(w - 2) = (3w * w) - 36 now solve (helps to line up ur equal signs) 2 2 use FOIL method for left side of the equation: 3w - 6w - 2w + 4 = 3w - 36 2 2 combine like terms: 3w - 8w + 4 = 3w - 36 2 the 3w cancels itself out, leaving u with: -8w + 4 = - 36 using inverse operations, -8w and -36 become positive: 36 + 4 = 8w combine like terms: 40 = 8w use inverse operations to isolate the variable 5 = w (in other words, divide both sides by 8) we now know that the width = 5cm. now, go back to the original Given. if length = 3w, and w = 5, then the length = 15cm. now, if all this formatting looks like its supposed to, it will be a miracle. (crossing my fingers) i hope this helps........pax christi, phatcatholic
phatcatholic
wherever you see a 3w it should actually read 3w squared. that's what the 2's were supposed to be for. does all that make sense? holla back, phatcatholic

the_rev
The teacher said it was just fine that I didn't understand, we never hand in the assignments, since I wasn't there yesterday, she said, We're handing them in today. So, I wrote down some fake work, and she said for trying we would get full points. She never explains anything!!!

I like the last one, that one made me chuckle! I will, use a calculator for my budget! Yeah and the papal election votes, I won't have to count that high would I have to? Anyways, TAke Care!
