Guest Daniel Chinn
My sisters both have husbands that are non-catholic and pretty much refuse to go to mass regularly so instead of fighting with them my sisters just go to the Christian church. I go with them sometimes but usually after i go to mass the catholic church...i don't recieve communion because i figure even though it's not as ummm holy i guess as catholic communion i still shouldn't take it twice in the same day. But i always learned that catholics can take communion in any church well anyone who has been baptized into christianity can but i read somewhere that catholics are not to recieve communion from protestants...so can we are can't we?? BLAZEr
As a Catholic you are not permitted to receive communion in a non-Catholic church. Protestants do not believe the same things about communion that we do. When a Catholic receives communion he believes that he is receiving the ACTUAL, REAL, and SUBSTANTIAL body and blood of Jesus Christ. The closest some protestant churchs come is to believe that it's a symbol. We also believe that our communion is SIGN of our unity to Christ in his body. Those who are in communion with Christ are in communion with each other also. That's why non catholics are not allowed to receive our communion, because it would make a statement about our union that isn't true. In other words, we would turn the unity of our sacrament into a lie. Your sisters should also be going to Catholic mass. They are not fulfilling their Sunday obligation by going to a protestant religious service.
