Ever not know what to pray for?

Ash Wednesday

Have you ever been in such a jam and had so many problems that you don't know what to pray for? And then you feel like you're being selfish and should be praying for others...

And then you just feel overwhelmed and in the end find yourself unable to pray at all, because you feel like it's no use... :pinch:

Personally, I find there's really no point in praying if you're not collected, and can order your thoughts. Don't let time restrict you either. Just make a mental list, and pray about one thing, then move on. Or, maybe try one big prayer to help you through the stress?

Noel's angel
 @dUSt

If there is a lot of stuff fuzzing up my mind, I just say to God 'Lord, you know what is in my heart, you know the difficulties I have, please help me. I put all my trust in you and I know that you'll get me through.' Something like that usually.

There's nothing like praying for others to make your own problems seem small . . . the souls in purgatory, world peace, hunger and poverty, social justice . . . all areas that need all the help they can get . . . if you can't prioritize your problems, pray for others, and then, like Noel's Angel said, let God decide which of your problems is at the top of His priority list

When this happens to me, I do what Noah said, ask God to sort my heart and begin to pray. Otherwise I pray for the items or issues that are overwhelming me the most.

God bless-

That is what I do ALL THE TIME.

Yeah, I think that's probably a good start. :detective:

I'm seriously doped up on about 5 different prescription painkillers/anti-inflammatories right now... so yeah. I can't really think right now.

not having a clue what should come first, but in hope and faith:

for Ash Wednesday

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

No, not really. I think because I always have so many intentions it doesn't seem out of the ordinary for me. :P:

I would try maybe splitting up your prayer times during the day and pick two or three for each time. Perhaps 30 minutes in the morning and 30 in the evening devoting no more than 3 minutes per intention and making sure you leave time for contemplation and praise.

I am usually tired when I pray. I find it easier to slow down at night and pray. I keep this verse in mind when I am tempted (scrupulosity...) to go through a long list of intentions:
"Your Father knows what you need before you ask him." - Matthew 6:8
