cmotherofpirl
musturde visited a board I participated on sometimes and told me to bring it to phatmass and I would be destroyed and smacked down. I decided to visit, and now I am here. I think it was a good review, it just struck me as funny that they leave stuff like that out.
CatholicAndFanatical
This Saturday were having another Frasatti Society meeting, our special guest is Joseph Pearce, he is going to talk about Tolkien and Jackson. Should be pretty interesting to hear. I havent seen the Lord of the Rings yet, in fact I havent seen any of them. When it first came out I viewed it like another Harry Potter junk, but recently heard it was a Catholic view film, now my interest is peaked and I need to rent the first parts, then head to the movies to see the current one. One saturday I'll go rent em and spent 6 hours watching them. CatholicAndFanatical
Circle_Master
Circle what did you think about his decision to leave out the scourging of the shire?(ignoer the time constraints) I was looking forward to that through the entire movie . So you can understand I was disappointed. I wanted to see some hobbits in action! Edited January 8, 2004 by Circle_Master

The first is around 3.5 hours, the second around 3.5, the third around 3.5 You'll have around 10 hours of movies if you watch all the Lord of the Rings ones. cmotherofpirl
you ruined it!!! AHHHH! No I didn't After LOTTR was published, that is a slogan people used to paint as graffetti all over the world . I just want him to get a porta potty, barbeque pit and frig in his living room , because he certainly won't be able to leave the room when he turns the DVD on. Buster
I read the books a few years ago and just saw the ROTK. I loved the books and the movies. There are too many great things about the movies to comment on but I think one of my favortite parts is the unfailing friendship of Sam throughout the movies. Through thick and thin he is always there for Frodo and in his innocence, fidelity and love he does not give in to the ring even though he is right by it for so long. Another great point is all the Catholic symbolism: sin, Eucharist, Mary, Christ ... God bless
jmjtina
Actually the first film is 178 min, the second is 179 minutes and the third is 201 minutes. The extended versions (which I HIGHLY recommend) is FOTR: 208 min, TT: 223 minutes and of course the extended version of ROTK is 201 but the extended version isn't out yet. (i am patiently waiting) The extra stuff on the extended versions are halirious. Did you know most of the riders of Rohan were women who had to wear beards? In other scene where Gollum (andy serkis) comes from behind frodo and sam and pulls clean off sean astins (sam) wig is HALIRIOUS!!!!! Sean was all mad.....We kept going back to watch it because it was so funny! And then that scene where Aragorn kicks the helmet (remember they were chasing the Ura-kai and thier looking for Merry and Pippin and they think they are dead?) well, PJ let him have like four takes on that (trying to kick the helmet towards the camera), and on the last one he gave this massive yowl of frustration. PJ said, "Wow, that scream just showed his frustration and anguish! That was perfect." Well, Viggo Mortenson broke two of his toes and used it in his performance. funny stuff.

Ellenita
A friend came with me to see Return of the King. She hates sci fi and fantasy films and usually sleeps through much of it, but she stayed awake the whole time - she was absolutely astounded at the film! It's so superb. CandF, you're going to have a great weekend! :D
