cmotherofpirl
A Baptist perspective on Tolkien Very interesting Tolkein Of course, he left out what Tolkien said was the most important part of his life- recieving the daily Eucharist at Mass, or the fact that when Tolkien was editing he set out to make it a consciously Catholic story. BLAZEr
Shhh, C-Mom, don't say it too loud . . . they might notice and decide they don't like it. It just might be the source of conversion for many many souls.

PyroPenguinX07
I read an article in the St. Anthony Messenger about the Lord of the rings but that was about the catholic point of view

Ditto Cmom. On the extended versions of the DVD's there are commentators on Tolkien and his works, especially with comments on his friendships with other writers, such as CS Lewis. but I haven't finished watching yet.....I should go watch it now..... :rolling: I liked St. Anthony's messengers article......as well as EWTN's. ^_^

marielapin
The review was quite good. I was glad that they mentioned that he was a devout Catholic, because Tolkien himself admitted that he could not separate his Catholicism from his writings. Ellenita
I just saw The Return of the King last night. It's an incredible film. I haven't read the books yet - has the director done justice to them do you think? He has reportedly insisted that he stick to the story as closely as possible. It was very interesting to hear people discussing the film as they left the cinema. I thought it was impossible not to see the influence of Christianity in it! Circle_Master
Peter Jackson has done a very good job with accuracy to the books. A few things were changed - but it follows the book storyline for 95% of it.
