Circle_Master
also, remember how i define redeemed (it's so confusing how everyone defines their terms different on this subject) for me redeemed is saved from mortal sin and from all past sin, but we still must atone for sins we commit after being redeemed. we must atone? God has already done it! 1 John 2:1 But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous you sound like you believe in the OT system or something. You sin, now you need to go make a sacrifice. You sin, now you need to go sacrifice again. etc.
Aloysius
i have been redeemed of original sin and of all the sins i commited b4 my baptism (i'm cradle Catholic, so that's not really much) all of these sins that aren't too serious, not soul-threatening, are easily forgiven through Christ's cross, but the only way to be sure i've been forgiven by CHrist's cross for these sins is to go to the foot of the Cross and be absolved by Christ Himself (the Eucharist forgives venial sins) if i sin mortally, it kills my spirit. mortal sins are the path away from Christ, and thus require special confession, penance, and absolution from a priest acting in the ministry Christ gave to the Church when He breathed on them and said "Receive the Holy Spirit, whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, whose sins you retain are thus retained" I do not know whether i am elect or reprobate, because i cannot see into the future and know whether i persever in my faith. but i do know that right now i have faith in Christ, but i could lose it at any time. and because i COULD lose it, i do not know whether or not i am elect or reprobate. but yes you must make the effort to place your sins in His mercy. your sins are not forgiven unless you trust Him and attone for them and allow Him to clear you of them. Yep, God has atoned for us, and that's His Redemptive work, atoning for the fall of mankind-- Adam's sin; original sin. His Salvitic work is after we've been baptized and are thus redeemed He continues to purify us of our sins when we repent of them and seek forgiveness the ways He gave us, to go to His Apostles, if they're not mortal to receive His Body... and that's how our advocate gives us the grace to be purified from our sins and be reconciled to the Father. i believe in the OT, and in the NT as the fulfillment of the OT, and i don't think the NT just gives us a "Get into Heaven Free card"
