Post that you're too broke for a $100 ring to get engaged, but assume that everyone who breezes through the thread just KNOWS you have some sort of financial stability planned.

I guess that was too obvious for me.

Seriously. If you can't scrape up a few bucks for a ring, then it's a bit too early for you to get engaged. Make a plan. Work the plan.

Despite the blatant sarcasm in the beginning of this post, this dude definitely has a point...

Although, had I listened to him - I would have waited a much longer time to propose to my wife. Praise God I proposed when I did!

True, however there is a polite way of delivering concern and advice, and an extremyly rude and unhelpful one. If I didn't know Micah and Jennie better I'd probably be suggesting they wait a little while longer... but coming from the married end of a long engagement I can understand where they are coming from, and since I do know them better they've got my prayers and support. :) They're making their commitment to one another public, making plans for their future. They aren't walking up the aisle tomorrow. They're college students, not morons. (this BTW, isn't directed at you inDEED, just my thoughts on the situation in general. :) )

STOP!

How did such a lovely, joyous thread turn into a sour debate?

Let this young man have his joy. Back on track:

I have the traditional enegagment/wedding ring which I treasure. When my marriage was blessed, I chose a simple gold rosary ring. I found that marriage, in many ways, is like the mysteries of the rosary. The joyful times, especially when expecting a child, can bring a woman so close to Jesus through Mary. In the tough or sorowful times, it carried me through to meditate on those particular mysteries and to know that I walked with Our Lord.

God Bless and hopeful that you find the ring you are looking for. Have you thought about any ring that your family may have inheritied? It is my hope that if my daughter marries, she will want to wear a piece of jewelry handed down, and to have part of her communion veil become part of her wedding veil. But hey....moms can dream and then life intervenes!

Yes, I have thought about an inheritance. My mother told me when I was younger that she'd give her 1/4 kt diamond ring to whichever of her sons (we're all boys in the family) got engaged first. She has since commented that she doesn't plan on doing that.

Yes, and the $73 I'm spending is hardly a drop in the bucket, all things considered. I spent 50 cents on the promise ring I bought her and she was pleased. Please stop judging me; I'm being thrifty enough as it is.

I know you're being serious, but I love this line. I actually laughed out loud. You guys are awesome.

 I should add that I discussed this thread and the one at Flyfree with Jennie and she got mad. "Who are they to tell me what I want?!" She thought about coming online and giving a piece of her mind. :ninja:

This is so funny.

Since when did enagement become instant marriage??

(unless you are my freak brother - see other thread).

Anyways. Congratulations! I think it is super cool what you are doing. And for the record, I was married in university AND pregnant within 3 months of being married. I had our first Child the fall after I graduated. Things tend to work out whenever you listen to God's plan, which you clearly are.

Nothin' wrong with a $75 or $100 dollar ring. I know two women who lost their very expensive engagement rings, and now have none. Betcha they would both have liked a cz now!!

Money isn't everything, God's plan is everything. If you are listening to it, and following what he call you to, then poopey on everyone else!

There was my .02. :)

Here is a nice one!!

Platinum with created diamonds.

I love the man made diamonds more than Cubic Z.'s. I think they are called diamondelles?? Not sure, but they are beautiful, and reasonably priced.

Good. I'm glad that's OVER. (That's a hint.)

Tell Jennie her sis said hi. I'll be there in December (on my birthday if y'all remember when that is haha) and I'll wanna see this ring - not like it's gotten enough attention!

Exactly. I need to stop thinking that I need to justify myself to others.

Created diamonds would be fine. How reasonable do you mean?

homeschoolmom

so why is it that if you give someone a lump of coal as a gift, that's bad. But a lump of diamond, that's good. Carbon's carbon.
