I agree with all the suggestions (veal?), esp. the walker-car thingy that prose posted, and the bead thingy that Ice-Princess posted, they are fantastic for 1 year olds. I remember my son got given a little rocking horse (with straps to keep him on), which he loved.

My babysit-baby LOVES the 'thing with the beads in doctor's offices'. She likes hitting her bigger brother with it, too, so now her daddy screwed it to a side table that's still too heavy for her...

They're good for hand-eye coordination and 3D-insight.

And, like everyone else said, you can't really go wrong with board books. Just don't mind if your present gets eaten! :)

Those doctor's office things are fun. Why they have them in doctors' offices, I'm not sure. Sick children touching all over it.... bleh...

I remember having bath dye as a kid and it didn't stain, but my 3 year old sister just got the crayola bath crayons for her birthday... they WERE a pain to clean. After about a week my mom threw them away. They don't stain, you're right, but the clean up stinks. It doesn't just rinse off.

I always thought that, too!!! Thats why I decided to buy one of our own! My kids loved it, but I couldn't stand seeing them play with it when they were healthy and only in for a basic checkup and then some poor little sick coughing child come and touch it right along with them.

Yeah, my mom would always complain that about three days after she'd take us to have a check-up, we'd have to go back because we'd be sick from playing with the toys. It's a conspiracy. :P:

I know that my son picked up chicken pox at the doctor's office. He was only five months old.
