I was watching the daily mass today and I guess that Fr. Mitch Pacwa is doing a mass in another rite on there. Iam just wondering if anyone watched it and knows which rite hes doing the mass in. I know its not the Roman rite...

My bad...Hes only assisting in mass, it looks very different from maronite.....Does anyone know of a different rite that they use in India?

Fr. Mitch is biritual. I think he celebrates the Maronite rite. Pretty cool to see it on EWTN!

I like the vestments that Bishop is wearing, lol.

I think the Bishop said he's from the Syro-Malabar Church. Here's a website that lists all the rites:
Syro-Malabarese - Catholics from Southern India using the East Syriac liturgy. Returned to Rome in the 16th century from the Nestorian heresy. Liturgical languages are Syriac and Malayalam. Over 3 million Syro-Malabarese Catholics can be found in the state of Kerela, in SW India.
Care to explain what you didn't like so much that you felt a need to say it twice Rev?

lol.

I don't watch the daily Mass to much because I feel wierd. Like... How do you watch a Mass. Are you supposed to act like you're there. I don't feel I'm attentive enough.

Maybe I should though. It might help me get the hang of the Latin responses I'll have to use at OLAM. I might tonight. I'd love to see a Mass in another rite, even if I'm not there personally.

I wonder if they had the permission of the diocese to celebrate this rite today, because they would need permission to do so....

It was a bishop of a different rite correct?

If so, special permission would still be needed by the diocese.

It was a bishop who is bi-ritual. No permission needed. Any Catholic bishop may publicly celebrate any Catholic rite.

Absolutely beautiful!

I know that about ten or so years ago, Mother Angelica told her viewers/guests that she wanted to have every Catholic rite- Western or Eastern- celebrated on air... at least now she's starting to get her wish. :)

I think the Bishop knows what he has to do to celebrate Mass. I wouldn't worry about whether the Mass was allowed or not. It's EWTN. Of course it was.
