jswranch
Caught in the middle of another Anglican schism, Dad told me on the phone today that he honestly wants me to walk him through/convince him of the Marian dogmas. If you notice some of my other posts, I have decided to begin with the perpetual virginity. My 16 page paper is now under review of one of our seminarians who is checking up on my OT Hebrew source, as he used to be an Hasidic Jew. thessalonian
cool. Might I recommend a short but very good book by patrick Madrid, "Any Friend of God's is a Friend of Mine". It is not specifically marian but does give a good background and scriptural understanding of why we pray to saints and framing it in a proper non-worship context. Fides_et_Ratio
that's awesome (definite prayers ) I'd also recommend recommend looking at the Church Fathers... it always made sense to me when I was reconciling that we ought to look to what the earliest Christians believed and said. Oh, and regarding the "brothers" in the Bible, I had the privilege of running into a Nigerian priest at our parish once who was talking about his villiage and that they did have some non-Catholic Christian communities there and so he did have to know a little about apologetics. As we got to talking, we discussed Marian doctrines... and I was shocked to hear him say that the "brothers" mentioned in the Bible don't usually pose much of a problem for that doctrine for the Nigerians, because they are used to the fraternal sense of calling cousins and near kin "brother"... he said as he read more into apologetics he'd seen that we (i.e., "westerners") were having that issue, and said that it's mostly a Western issue because we give such an exclusive meaning to words (like "worship", "brother", etc.). It was a very interesting conversation.

Here is my game plan for the next week: 1. Get my source checked for the OT in the below quote (hint hint). 2. Send it to him with CD set Tim Staples: "All generations Shall Call Me Blessed" for his road trip up to see me. 3. Include book, An Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine by John Henry Cardinal Newman 4. Be ready for questions when he gets here. goldenchild17
An absolute must read (and must share) in regards to Mary's sinlessness is "The Immaculate Conception of the Mother of God" by Bishop William Ullathorne. My favorite source for this doctrine. btw, Where do you go to Church in Colorado Springs? I live about 20 minutes outside of the Springs.

DAF
Well the good news is that if he's willing eough to ask you to do that for him, he's probably already made up his mind (consciously or otherwise). Maybe not definitively, but you can guess where he's leaning. Prayers

I liked what I saw at U of A, as far as public schools go, and that's all I can go to so...
