clg01
I commend your effort. I find it extremely disturbing that you had such a time finding a priest for confession but, it seems more so nowadays, that is becoming more prevelant. I pray that seminarians see the bad behaviors of some of our priests today in the hope that they will learn from them and build a better foundation for doing God's work as good priests. We all can learn from the mistakes of others. It is so true that confession is the gateway to salvation. I held in my sinful acts for nearly 3 months until, last Sunday at the cathedral basilica, Monsignor really hit home in his homily. Now, mind you, the church is strongly requesting priests to speak of the confessional and reconciliation now-a-days in any venue they can and Monsignor uses his homilies to take advantage of the opportunity. I went to confession and, being that I am applying for candidacy to seminary next year, I was instructed to be in confession at least 3 weeks out of every month. That, in my personal opinion, is not asking too much especially, during this time of discernment and prayer. I was so thankful to Monsignor for the homily he gave last Sunday. I hope phatmassers and all others in the church really take the time to meet Our Savior, Jesus Christ, face to face in the confessional. Believe me, I know how scary it can be at time to confess sins that you only want to hold in; sins you don't want anyone else to know about. God knows. He is all-knowing and there is no hiding anything from him. Approach the gate and he will come to absolve you. Be mindful and humble as you feel the literal weight of your sins uplifted off of your heart.
Mary-Kathryn
Yeah, I've had quite a time finding a confessor too. Thankfully I found a parish around my house that does them in the morning before 2nd mass, so I go to confession (if I need to) and then stay for mass. It's really a good deal. There's only one of the priests that I like as a confessor though, and since the priests (there's 3 of them) alternate for like 3 months at a time for confessions, I don't get to see him in the morning for proably 6 months. It's okay though, a sacrament's a sacrament.
Wow, it really sinks in how blessed I am. At my parish, the priest hears confession twice a day almost every day.....at many different times so he can hit just about everyone's schedule!
