Michael rowed the boat ashore, Alleluia! Michael rowed the boat ashore, alleluia! etc.

Who is michael?

Why did he row the boat ashore?

And why is this an act that demands an alleluia.

Michael was sent out to the Island of Cheesecake and tacos, so very tasty and good for you,

People were very hungry when he finally got back.

Although rumor has it they stiffed him on the tip

Michael is an elvish rendering of 'Skjfkn s;kn', the boat is a metaphor for a means of leaving an island (the island is a metaphor, but those texts haven't been translated yet), but hot stuff is mistaken, the island wasn't called Cheescake and tacos, so very tasty and good for you,, he was seeking Cheesecake and tacos, so very tasty and good for you, which, clearly, are a metaphor for Frodo Baggins.

Actually I've had the same question for a long time. What the hell does kumbaya mean?
Michael Row the Boat Ashore (or Michael Row Your Boat Ashore) is an African-American spiritual song from the Sea Islands of Georgia. It was written sometime before the Civil War. The song's refrain is, "Michael row the boat ashore, Hallelujah."[1]

The rowing may refer to rowing small boats from the islands to the Georgia mainland. The character Michael may refer to a slave from the island plantations, or it may refer to the Archangel Michael. [1]

The song was popularized in the 1960s by Harry Belafonte. [1]
Also read:
Like many spirituals, "Michael Row the Boat Ashore" combines religious expression ("hallelujah") with quotidian detail ("row the boat ashore"). The boat is a musical boat -- the slaves often expressed themselves creatively by starting with their musical instrument ("Little David play on your harp") and the boat was the "instrument" of the rowers. Note other religious images (Jordan River, chills the body but not the soul, milk and honey). Historians of spirituals classify the song as both a spiritual and a work song, and some argue that it is more properly a sea chanty.

Who is Michael and why is he rowing? We've covered the rowing part--to get to the mainland. There are two main theories on who Michael is. The least likely (in my amateur opinion) is that Michael was the name of the oarsman from a particular plantation. The more popular theory is that Michael is the archangel Michael, who is being called on to help when the rowing was tough. Regardless of the origins of the song, I suspect the latter interpretation is why the song became widespread.
I started hating that song when Bob from Sesame Street started leading the gang in "We've got the whole world in our hands."

Yeah, I remember an occasion when I was little, and Barney sang 'Oh When the Saints Go Marching In," and insteadof saying "oh Lord, how I want to be in that number," they dropper Lord for 'how.'

when i was around 7, i thought Michael was the boat.

"Michael Rowe, the boat ashore..."

but it seems to me that i subconsciously knew it was St. Michael.
