Hirsap
Hello, 1) (a) In the Our Father, do we address only God the Father, or all Three Divine Persons? (b) It is perfectly okay to pray the Our Father while facing the Blessed Sacrament, as this is God the Son essentially? (I realise that the substance of the 3 Divine Persons is the same). 2) When we worship God, can the different Persons of the Holy Trinity be addressed individually? I say yes, e.g.: the "come Holy Spirit" prayer, "My Jesus, mercy", etc. Thanks
Laudate_Dominum
Hey. Let's see here...
1) (a) In the Our Father, do we address only God the Father, or all Three Divine Persons?
The doctor of prayer recommends addressing the Father whilst being aware of Christ's presence with you (perhaps even imagining him beside you), all in the Holy Spirit. There are endless ways to pray the Our Father. The more interior the prayer the better. If you cultivated an awareness of the indwelling of the Holy Trinity in your soul and all that you could resolve the whole question. ;-) But to answer the question a bit more directly I'd say that in the Our Father we address God the Father, but we ought to have a spiritual awareness of God as Trinity and of Christ praying in and through us, etc.. But there are no rigid rules. The only rule is to follow the promptings of Grace and the Holy Spirit. It would make it so much easier to pray the Our Father whilst being spiritually aware of Christ's Presence and union with your soul. Sweet. And God has revealed Himself and His works in salvation history as Trinity. I would recommend reading about the lives of some saints and the writings of saints to get a glimpse of what a saint's spirituality is like and how the spiritual life grows and stuff.
