To me this doesn't make sense, concerning the nature of the word "limit." I'd think that in the government, where everything revolves around careful wording, techincalities, and red tape, the officials would not place a "limit" intending for the limit to be broken.

I don't think they're placing the limit with the intent that it will be broken, but rather are setting it knowing that people will break it. There's a difference.

How come you get upset when I'm going the speed limit in front of you on a two-lane road? Do I not have that right or am I bound by your faster speed?

How come I cannot pass another car when you are hogging up the passing lane? How come you get upset when I politely wait to try and pass a slower car and refuse to speed up to accomodate you? How come you get to arbitrarily set the "speed limit (at least!)" rather than go by the one that has been established?

Thing is you do not have the "right" to drive at all it is a privilege. Funny isnt? We pay for the car we drive its taxes the gas that goes in that car and the gas taxes, and we pay for the road in taxes, and we pay for the police pay checks in taxes and the Judges. And most importantly we vote for and pay in taxes the Lawmakers which gives us the privilege to drive, who we give the privilege to govern.

Tell me what right does a goverment have to give any privileges, when it has no rights at all, but only the privilege from the people to govern? Answer NONE

I guess I should clarify for some. :P:

I have the right to go no faster than the speed limit, not guaranteed by the government, but not to be limited by the citizens!

I don't; I pass you when I get the chance. (Actually, that's one of the most awesome parts of driving... passing on a 2 lane road!)
How come I cannot pass another car when you are hogging up the passing lane?
Actually, this happens to me a lot. The people going 5-10 mph faster than me don't give me a chance to pass the grandma who's doing 5 under... I just wait for an opening and floor it!

I do this too, sometimes, and people get upset. It's not worth being drafted or bumped, though, by an angry driver. However, sometimes a lot of annoyance on both sides can be avoided if you don't make it look like you jump in front of them only to slow them down.

90+% of the time, it's safer to go the average speed of traffic than the posted speed limit. Seeing that the goal of the law is safety...

Zach, drivers like you definitely make the drive more challenging.

What I don't understand, though (and perhaps you can tell me this) is why y'all (and I'm lumping all you bad drivers into the same category) feel compelled to stay in the passing lane when there's no one in the right lane.

I think I drive about 600 miles a week right now.

Averaged out, I think I spend about 12 hours in the car a week as it stands. :)

I don't stay in the left lane when the right lane is open, except on one road. ;)

In fact, unless a lane is ending in a mile, I stay in the furthest right lane possible. :) It's the drivers who use that one as a passing lane that get bothersome...Although, I do have a dent in the back of my car that needs repaired....:P:

I once gave up speeding for Lent. I'm definitely impressed if you're driving that much and still sticking to the speed limit. It's difficult to do.

I admit I do occasionally pass on the right side, but only when a person in the left lane stubbornly refuses to move over.

ilovechrist

as a young 18 year old who is looked upon as one who would commonly drive recklessly...

i don't. sure i've had a ticket but i was late to a State meeting and was lost in the middle of the woods. the officer almost let it go because i was in such a panic. i drive responsibly--sure i'll go between 5-10 over, but i'm not going to put anyone's life in danger by doing so.
