qfnol31
We've had some discussions on the speed limit before, but now I'm standing up for my rights. I have the right to go no more than the speed limit, no matter how angry it makes you following me. I have the right to move into the left lane without cutting you off to pass someone at my own pace without having to speed up to pass a slow driver. Those are my rights, so why do you deny them to me? I hope someone catches the irony. Anyone actually disagree with this? : If no one does, we can argue about why Catholics are bound to normally follow the speed limit.

Era Might
I generally go a little bit over the speed limit, but only 5 or 10 miles on the highway. If everyone around me is driving crazy, though, I'll go as fast as I have to to stay clear of them. Better safe than sorry.
Thing is you do not have the "right" to drive at all it is a privilege. Funny isnt? We pay for the car we drive its taxes the gas that goes in that car and the gas taxes, and we pay for the road in taxes, and we pay for the police pay checks in taxes and the Judges. And most importantly we vote for and pay in taxes the Lawmakers which gives us the privilege to drive, who we give the privilege to govern. Tell me what right does a goverment have to give any privileges, when it has no rights at all, but only the privilege from the people to govern? Colleen
Though I admittedly speed at times (not much), I can't come up with a moral argument to go over the speed limit all the time.
Era Might
No, it's not necessarily a sin to commit a civil crime. Speeding, though, is generally a matter of public safety, so wildly flaunting the speed limit could be a sin; not because the government has set a speed limit, but because you are endangering the welfare of other drivers. There are, of course, some laws that are grave, and require obedience, at least in substance. There are many administrative laws that you don't necessarily have to follow the letter to the tee, but it is enough to follow the spirit. A ban on gambling, for example. If you have a friendly 5 dollar bet with a friend over a football game, even though all gambling is illegal, it's no big deal and no sin. If you're running a gambling casino in your basement, that's another matter. Letter vs. Spirit.
