Could you help me out and list all the good vocational sites out there? The sites that give you pointers and what not about discerning. Thank you!

Bernadette

Hi Bernadette,

I'm still new so I don't know of any links; but what I have been doing is reading other threads, and oftentimes they are FULL of links.

Great to meet you!

www.vocation.com is run by the Legionaries of Christ. They are very reliable.

Gemma has a site too although I don't know it's URL. It has a lot of information on communities listed.

My daughter happened to think that www.phatmass.com was very good too. :)

The Institute on Religious Life has a good listing of religious orders, as well as articles on discernment and vocations.

Vocations Placement allows you to sign up and receive information from various communities. They also help connect you with communities offering free live-in retreats.

The Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious is a great resource for active women's orders faithful to the Magisterium of the Church. Cloistered orders don't seem to be members, so you'd have to look elsewhere for them.

That's all I've got for now.

I would have to agree with the IRL website, there is alos the vocation placement test on there as well, its a link to the placement test. However all you have to do is figure out a password and screen name. However, you don't want to get caught up in the vocations placement people....they weren't any help to be honest....all they did was send your name and address out fo various different comunities for you....I never agreeed to that.

Good Luck!!!

Society of Our Lady of the Cloister's website: http://cloisters.tripod.com/

We also have the women in discernment yahoo group:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/womenindiscernment/

VocationsPlacement.org is really good with vocational testing.

http://www.vocationsplacement.org/

If that doesn't work, remove the "www" from the front of the URL.

There's also a thread that I started just yesterday, I think, that had a link to the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, MO, vocations page.

HTH.

Blessings,
Gemma

Like a Child

Maybe you tried this already. . .but when I was first searching, I just went to Google and typed in the words "discernment" and "vocation." Tons of stuff came up. Not all of it was helpful, but quite a bit of it was.

Just a thought.

Here's some more that might be helpful:

Catholic Spiritual Direction: has a lot of great info, including an introduction to what SD is all about, different methods of prayer, and a lot of Catholic spiritual classics that you can legally download for free!

Melbourne Diocese Vocations Page: though it's technically for folks in Australia, there's a lot of handy information for anyone discerning, including some practical steps in starting to discern and some great vocation stories

Diocese of Austin, TX: large emphasis on priestly vocations, but it does have a good list of spiritual reading about discernment and a vocational glossary which would be really helpful to someone who is just starting to discern and is not familiar with religious communities, etc.

God bless

Also try-

http://www.catholicozvocations.org.au

Ok, it is for Aussies :P: , but it also has a question and answer section in which you can ask questions and have them answered by a priest, 2 sisters and a brother.

Hope it helps.

I've been discerning from the house........as a teen for three years......so i've been constricted to websites and mail. So i know the websites like the back of my hand (ohhh look that freckle is new.....) anyways..........

Out of the ones that have been posted...I would say that Olam_DAD's is the best. At vocation.com it is very nicely laid out and easy to find things. Not to mention they actually update the website every month or so. (At most sites they never update them) Also, you can ask a vocation question and it will be answered by a priest, as well as search through old questions. They just have a lot of resources there. I really found their website very helpful.

Not that all of the other websites unhelpful. One that i didn't really like though was VISION. It might just have been me....but i just didn't care for it. But they are all good sites. Good luck on your search and on your discernment. Don't forget that prayer is the most important part and that God seems to be very big on the whole waiting thing... ;)

-Yours in Christ
Lauren

These do seem to be lovely nuns. I get their newsletter. I have asked them also to post it online, which they aren't doing yet.

If one were interested in a cloistered order, and considering the Dominicans, I would certainly check them out!
