Jesus_lol
There would be pretty much no excuse for a scientist if he/she made a A.I. robot that turned on mankind. "i didnt know it would happen!!" "suuuure, you missed 2001:Space Odyssey, The Matrix, Terminator, that episode of X Files, I Robot, the list goes on???" "i dont watch many movies?"
Would creating A.I. automatically include creating a sentient being? And would creating a new sentient being be akin to playing God? I think the two questions above must be clear in anyone's mind prior to questioning the morality behind A.I.l Arrghh, where's Thomas Aquinas when you need him!
Short answer-- NO! The abacus can make calculations. AI can decide it needs to configure it's self as an abacus to make a calculation, but that is as far as it goes. A machine could only ever simulate love and emotions. Self awareness comes from the soul, only God can create a soul. Luigi
I don't know a lot about A.I itself, and even less about the Catholic philosophical or theological perspective on it. BUT... if you can blend another controversial issue with A.I., you'd come up with Artificial Insemination of Intelligence - and I have a number of candidates in mind for that!
