Getting the kids hooked on Starbucks

Um... probably. Based on the experience with my friend's 10 year old, however, she is very much turning into a Starbucks snot. But she's only one... but I have to deal with her a lot... but yeah.

I don't have anything against Starbucks, per se... I just don't like children becoming brand loyal to their coffee house before they hit puberty.

:saint: homeschoolmom, you aren't stereotyping are you? I'm not a snob and I love Starbucks. And as for the calories, drinks can be made with fat free milk and other additives rather than the suggested ones that are offered at the counter. It would be the parent's job to educate their children as to what is appropriate and not. What an opportunity to present children with: allowing them one more chance to take ownership in what they eat and why they eat it.

The coffeeshop culture is important to many people. In George Weigel's book "Letters to a Young Catholic" he writes of G. K. Chesterton and the Old Cheshire coagulated milk, a pub where many of England's literary giants have congregated throughout history to discuss their affairs. Products of life at the coagulated milk were the great minds of such esteemed Catholics as Belloc, and Chesterton.

While not a pub in any sense of the word, coffeeshops, provide many people with the opportunity to discuss life, limb, and the pursuit of all things Christ. Some of the greatest discussions my spiritual director and I have had occurred in the Starbucks Waterfront in Pittsburgh, PA or Caribou Coffee in the South Side of PGH. Should I have a chance to aquaint my children to an environment that has seen their father grow in the faith in ways that rival the confessional, I will take advantage. And, if we are made to be snobs for it...I say only that Christ too was scorned! :P:

Now if you were talking about TGIF Fridays or Unos or Even Eat'n Park at the Waterfront I could deal, but STARBUCKS??? :D:

I suppose it could be worse. But I don't see the need the "label" or "stereotype". What I will come out of this convo with is the realization that you are a "labeler". What's worse for the soul, some caffeine or aquiring the habit of placing our friends and their children into groups based upon their choices of cuisine or any choice for that matter?

I don't mean to preach but come on.

C-Mom...come on!!! :D:

You know, the irony in all of this is that I rarely get coffee when I get together with my SD or anyone else for that matter. Often, I get a steamed milk (skim of course) with a shot of choc. and mint...

Nothing wrong with a bit of Starbucks every now and again!

homeschool...

and let me appologize before it gets pointed out:

In calling you a labeler, I have become one too.

Touche'

I stand humbled...but let us please be compassionate towrd one another!

I'm going to start calling you Nathan (2 Samuel). This is the second time in one week that you have been my voice of faith-filled reason. Consider me greatful...I will do a spot of penance in your family's honor this evening!!! Anything I might pray for?

God the Father

I wonder what would be more expensive in the long run: Installing a coffe machine in the roof of your car which would make a cup of store-brand coffee for you each morning,

or

Having a cup of Starbucks coffee each morning.

I enjoy Starbucks a lot, but I tend to prefer the warmer stuff (unless it's a Frappuccino). I'm glad I usually work morning shifts at Applebee's, free unlimited coffee for me. :D:

I confess, I hang out at the bookstore every weekend at the Waterfront, especially over the winter months. My friend and I do the riverwalk, and head for hot chocolate and check out all the new books. :) What a perfect Sunday afternoon.

It's not just the fat. At nearly $4-5 each, it does promote a snobbiness... I could feed one of my kids a whole meal at a sit down restaurant for that...

I was thinking about the prices  I was warned it wasn't for scruffy broke people like us, but one day I walked in there with my kids anyways. When I looked at the prices, I told my kids all we can have is one oatmeal cookie or one drink between the four of us. We never went back.
