missionseeker
I got here!!!! At the airport in Birmingham the flight got delayedfor an hour. Then when i got to Chicago, the next plane was delayed for an hour so I went to get something to eat and they announced "All passengers on flight 1150 to Philadelphia please return immediately to gate B19" so what supposed to be a two hour layover was actually about 20 minutes. scardella
FYI, the cafe at the Holocaust museum is not worth it. You have to leave the building, go to the cafe building, stand in line for security AGAIN, only to have wierd vegetarian food (closest thing to meat they serve is tuna). If you go back to the holocaust museum, you have to go through security a third time... It's a pain in the butt! The subway system is confusing at first (especially the fee card/ticket thing), but can get you around most of DC. If possible, you might want to stop in Baltimore if you're going to be in the area for more than a week. They have an incredible Italian pastry shop there... my mouth waters just thinking about it. [/quote] Check all metro and VRE lines before heading out for sightseeing. Two metro lines are down today due to high water, and the VRE was closed today as well. Also check to see if roads are open. I remember hearing there are some probelms with minor flooding. I think it was said this morning that most of the sight-seeing places are open, so it's not too hard to enjoy everything. There was a bit of flooding in the underground garages at 3 major buildings, but no problems with the interior. [saw all this on news, so I'm not actually there] I know the rain is a pain, but cheer up. It only means you will be able to enjoy yourself without being elbow-to-elbow with all the other tourists. Take care to stay plenty hydrated and stagger your outside times with in. The humidity is pretty high at the moment. Now that I've been a complete party-pooper, let me say that DC can be an awesome place to visit. Take your umbrella and enjoy!
missionseeker
I AM enjoying the rain. It hasn't rained where I live for a couple months and it SO much cooler with the rain. I'm really only using the buses during the week to get back and forth to school. I don't know what I'm going to do on the weekends yet. Someone in the class had to drop out because she had only gotten a mile in 2 hours and couldn't get there. Which totally stinks. Some of the METROtrains had to stop in the middle of a run because of water. Some of the buses are not running (Hopefully, mine will stay running.)
