Yah, they seem to be really harsh against violence, and less demanding when it comes to sexual innuendo. But I think the sexual stuff is far more dangerous, because although mindless violence is no good, most people aren't tempted to go blow things up when they see it in a movie. Lust, on the other hand, is an immediate and perpetual temptation for most people.

really? :ohno: i just had friends say that they thought it had a really graet message!

well shucks...

It may have had a great message, but the way they tried to show it was drenched in sexual perversion.

By the way, in reference to the comments on the bishops' ratings...they're often inconsistent. The Matrix got an O, but the sequels, which were far worse, didn't.

Thanks for the heads up, Raph. I almost went to see it.

Oh, Iggy...I don't even want to imagine how shocked you would have been.

Wow.

Nacho Libre gets an "O" for morally offensive?

That's ridiculous. I'm not taking these ratings seriously anymore.

It's funny, today I had two different Catholic friends who saw the movie tell me it was really good and that I should go see it....

I have never heard this before. "Excessive violence and recurring profanity. (O)"

Generally, I think the USCCB reviews are pretty good, but they baffle me sometimes. A lot of people probably think the reviews come from the Bishops, but it's just a subcommittee in the USCCB. It's not like the Bishops are getting together reviewing films. Take the reviews for what they're worth.

There are some good independent lay reviewers out there (eg, Steven Greydanus).

Well, maybe they just have a higher tolerance for multiple references to sexual acts, almost "cartoonish" sexual activity, a guy using his wife for sexual pleasure (and having no problem with that), crude references to sexual activity between dogs and inanimate objects, very flashy and scantily clad women, gross bathroom humor, and a close up of Adam Sandler in an almost naked fatsuit.

It was distasteful at the very least...even a secular person needs to admit that, but to a Christian, it was...ugly.
