rkwright
Jeff, is there somewhere where Dr. Rogers states that there is a 'could have' in her version of creation? It seems that she's at the same point as you, that God's will and reason being the same, being perfect, means that this is the best possible world to create, and that there are none other. Based on my understanding I don't see why your argument and her's are incompatible? Edited June 25, 2006 by rkwright

It seems that shes at the same point as you, that God's will and reason being the same, being perfect, means that this is the best possible world to create, and that there are none other. Based on my understanding I don't see why your argument and her's are incompatible? [/quote] Its a nuance, but Kate admits that there are other "possible" worlds from the perspective of the Divine Power, but that God creates the "best" world necessarily on account of the Divine Benevolence. The argument that I am making is that one cannot speak of any other "possible" worlds at all with respect to God because doing so would place one of the Divine Attributes (say, Knowledge) as logically prior to another (say, Will), when in fact this would render God ontologically composit. I agree with Dr. Rogers that everything God does is "necessary" because He does, in fact, do it. But I argue that any attempt to apply any preceeding necessity at all to God is in error.
