I took piano lessons for a few years. I still have a thing I got from my piano teacher.

Now, I can play "Greensleeves" and "Chopsticks"

You don't have to choose right away. Take a few classes in different areas and get a feel for what interests you.

I am definitely majoring in Philosophy, and I'm tossing up between double majoring in English Lit or minoring in Mediaeval and Early European Studies. :)

Edited to add: I'm a first year.)

Start with your general education if you can. I wish I had just focussed on that for my first year, or at least taken the classes that would also lead to a minor in my first major so that I would get something from half the classes I took. General education classes can be a necessary way to try a variety of classes before working on your major. If you do find a major that you want to do but aren't quite sure that you really want to stick with it more than a few classes, try meeting minor requirements before major requirements, that way you can change your major and still get something for the classes you took.

I came in to college going for some career objective and I wish I had just started as an undecided and then thought about what I wanted to study, not just get a job in for a while before moving on. The fact that many people get degrees in one field and then end up working in another doesn't just mean that you will have job options, but also that you can have study options and you may yet end up using that on the job. Just make sure that you come out with some definate job skills.

What major am/was I:

I started at a four-year state school as a Journalism major which wasn't my passion, then changed to Environmental Biology major. When my dad got laid-off and I changed schools, I took the chance to change my major again because the environmental part was right up my alley, but the biology part was too significant to not be what I cared as much about.

Now I am an Office Management major for an associate degree at the local community college. I am thinking of doing an additional associate in Accounting or at least Professional Administrative Assistant. I will be getting certificates in office assistant, MS Word, and hopefully Excel. This all should give me some good, employable job skills, especially as I will be supporting my own way through most of the rest of my education.

What major will I be:

I will go back to my first college for a bachelors in business, probably Finance. I just kind of fit in with the business people there (was even a business club officer). The corporate way of working is something that I would like to improve on in a humanitarian sense and the practical knowledge that I would gain would really help me in that, especially with the economic necessity of certain policies and business governing.

Later, I hope to get a graduate degree in environmental economics. I think it is fascinating to learn how the whole economic system works and this would help to equip me to change the way that some players (probably businesses, but we will see) operate in it and how the environmental impact of this can be improved. Also, it's a social science where I can use applied (and for me, easier) math.
My undergrad was political science and Russian and I have a law degree too. When I met with the vocational directress, she said that one of their long-term dreams was to establish a monastery in Russia - so everything we all have studied may be used one day for His plan!
Hey laudable, that is wonderful!! :)
