Corpus Christi processions

curtins

 Here in Schertz we didnot do one, unless it was after the 11 oclock mass.I went to the 8:ooam mass.
They did have in the paper that they were going to have a Corpus Christi procession
downtown at San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio that was i think supposed to go around Main Plaza.
I'm surprised at the interest in this. I know some parishes,i think mainly in ethnic areas,ie: Italian,Polish,German, etc.probably still did this, but otherwise the church had abandoned it in the US.I believe they still do it in Europe.
By the way watch the movie,Those Daring Young Men in their jaunty Jalopies with Tony Curtis ,Terry Thomas,Gert Forbes,Eric Sikes. It was made in the 1960s or early 70s.
There is a scene where they are in Paris, and you see a Corpus Christi procession.
I don't think it was added to the movie, just happend to be occuring while they were filming.

Wonder what the interest is now in the Church for such things.

And no,I'm not surprised by people's reactions on the street to seeing this.
Hopefully some young people will be called to Christ by this.
Some people called us lunatics, and why don't we go do our "business" in Church etc etc. Others just stood silently as a mark of respect, someone asked me "who died?" and what was I doing walking with "those freaks"...
That is really sad to hear. I understand that there is a great deal of anti-Catholicism in the UK.

I've only been in one several years ago; it was at a church in the suburbs so we marched through our parking lot.

That video is made by Grassroots Films, the same company that created Fishers of Men, the video to foster priestly vocations. It is a wonderful company. And, I loved the trailer for the video. I haven't seen it in awhile and I forgot the link.

Thanks

Apparently in small town South Dakota a woman died on Corpus Christi when a cannon fired and piece hit her head.

Yes. We're working on changing things, though. In a strange way we could turn things around more easily from where we're at. Being one of the most anti-trend minorities has a special appeal to people, especially those excluded by society. There's so much work to do here! :)

How sad! Where did you read/hear about this?

We had one. The procession only went a short distance, to a chapel down the road from our church, but it was a great success for us to be able to do it outside the church grounds at all. We haven't done that for years. We had Benediction and Eucharistic Adoration at the chapel after the procession too, which was really awesome.

In my grandma's old church directory. Actually it happened in the late 1800's. Her daughter went on to enter a convent.

Our parish had a procession around the church property. Since our priest pastors two parishes, we couldn't do a procession around town (not to mention, the very northern part of town is really spread out, not many places to walk at all). After mass, he had to literally run out so he could drive 45 minutes to do mass at another parish.
