did anyone take part in a corpus Christi procession today?

People from like 5 churches in my city gathered at my church today and we processed down mainstreet to the city green where we had benediction. It was wicked hot but cool stuff.

Thy Geekdom Come

St. Peter's Parish in Steubenville had a procession. We went up and down part of fourth street, which is the hub of downtown (which has lots of drugs and prostitution problems)...it was cool.

We did, with our Bishop. We went from the Cathedral for 18 blocks down King Street, and stopped 3 times at mini "altars" for prayer and meditation. We finished at Blessed Sacrament Church with Benediction and prayers.

We marched around the cathedral block singing hymns, followed by benediction. Nothing too elaborate with mini altars; but that sounds cool!

My parish had a procession too. It was sweltering outside, but we walked up and down the streets in the neighborhood the church is located in and stopped at a couple mini-altars along the way, where the priest blessed us with the monstrance (we all knelt on the ground). We sang Latin hymns like "Adoro Te Devote" and "Pange Lingua" as well as English hymns like "To Jesus Christ Our Sovereign King." We had the police there to stop and direct traffic so that we could have our procession, and it was also cool to see several people looking out their windows to see what was going on!

We always have a diocesan procession on the Thursday. There's a pizza supper and a catechesis for the youth (and young of heart) before hand. It starts at Notre Dame with a Mass, and winds its way to St. Pat's for benediction.

Our whole parish had one. We paraded down mainstreet, which was blocked off by the police. We've done this for the past several years now. (And this is in a smallish, traditionally protestant town).

At my sister parish we had a procession along a busy street in green bay around the block, we had mini altars as well, and the third order carmalites led us in a rosary.

Each time we stopped at the altar sang, O sacrament most holy, and other hymns, it was beutiful. I loved it!

I am convinced when we take Christ out into the streets the universal call to holiness is enhanced, vocations to every state of life are increased, and some people meet face to face our Eucharistic Lord who has come down from heaven!

In Christ Jesus,

Ed L.

i've never heard of that where i am. do most dioceses do that?

I think it is becoming more common, but it's not done everywhere. I participated in my first ever Corpus Christi procession this year, it was cool! We processed around the parking lot of the church (our church is in the middle of a field so we can't exactly go anywhere else) and were supposed to sing Pange Lingua in english, but as soon as we left the church only the choir was singing because no one else knew the song... You have to start somewhere I suppose!

I just got home from ours at the Cathedral! It was beautiful! We went around the neighborhood, stopping at three temporary altars on the way before returning to the Cathedral, which was totally lit up with candles!! We sang hymns and prayed various litanies between stops. At each altar, we sang part of the Pange Lingua and had Benediction. My only complaint is that the Pange Lingua and Tantum Ergo were in English...but other than that it was super! :)

Immediately after the 11 AM Mass, we started a procession around our block down the main street in town. We only went around one block, but that time was filled with prayer. For my Lord led the way. He was there! My God was leading the way passed businesses, homes, and parking lots. And, what did I realize? That others do not know Him! He died for them in torments unutterable and they don't know Him! Some would slow down in their cars and glance at us. Most would keep on talking on their cellphones and drive on. Some would stop and look but no one else joined in. Our Lord was there and they did not know Him. And we, miserable sinners, continue to offend Him.

When we returned to the Church, we had Benediction outside. It was beautiful.

I wouldn't be surprised if we do a bit more stuff in latin than some other dioceses do. It's a neutral language: neither french nor english. So we'll, for instance, sing the pater noster in latin at biligual diocesan events. It's better than what we used to do, when we were each invited to pray it in our own language. We would all pray in french, because the celebrant would be praying it in french.

It's great to hear other peoples' stories. We had our procession on Sunday lead by the fathers of the Oratory. We had a brass band and sang hymns in English and Latin, and prayed the rosary. Several people watched in amazement. Tourists snapped pictures. Some people called us lunatics, and why don't we go do our "business" in Church etc etc. Others just stood silently as a mark of respect, someone asked me "who died?" and what was I doing walking with "those freaks"... :ohno: We were sporting our St Michael Tshirts, with the prayer at the back and this became a talking point for a few people. It's a great act of witness, and I hope that more young people in my town will join us next year.
