jiyoung
I think the thing about FUS's masses, from what I've heard and seen, is that while the students DO strive for orthodoxy, praise&worship music is what they know--a LOT of parish youth groups are done with the Lifeteen program, keep in mind, so it's all they know, really. I think if there were a demand for chant, it's not like there would be resistance, since they do have other masses. The whole "charismatic" thing though isn't necessarily a horrible thing. I think that the fact that it dwells on renewal, aka bringing back nominal Catholics and such, is its downfall, because any fire will burn out quickly without fuel. But I don't think it's necessarily true at FUS--solid theology that's completely faithful to the Magisterium is pretty good fuel, if I do say so myself. I tend to shy away from any overtly charismatic stuff just because it tempts me to dwell on that stuff and to depend on that stuff for sustenance INSTEAD of daily Mass, adoration, etc. It's really just not my thing anymore, to be honest, and so I'm really glad that there are PM types there of similar conviction Kateri--what parish in LA? I'm from the LA archdiocese. If you want a good church, you should check out St Peter Chanel in Hawaiian Garden or Ss Peter and Paul in Wilmington, both very solid parish communities. St Peter Chanel is my parish xD

the_rev
I'm seriously contemplating going to Steubenville after talking with my mother today. It it will save me 24,000 dollars as they are 6,000 dollars less each year than UST. I'm thinking about the pre-theologate there at steubenville. I figured it out: Steubenville is 694.73 miles one way Two ways it is 1389 miles Five trips home a year is 6947 miles 6947*4 years of college is 27789 miles. If my car gets 30 miles to the galloon on highway 27789/30= 926 gallons of gas for four years If a galloon is 3.50 a galloon (God Forbid!) 926*3.50=3242 dollars in gas. So I think Steubie is worth more traveling to ultimatly save 20000 in tution and such. So plan on me being there if accepted in the fall of 2007. I will also be making a visit on july 21st this year! He was martyred in defense of the Church and of Jesus Christ, who chose for our salvation to hide Himself under the little form of bread. Now Jesus' Church has approved a Mass, a new liturgy in which He may come to meet man and become one flesh with him. I believe your patron is praying for you to appreciate that Church with greater love and devotion...enough that even you might someday die for it. God bless you. the 13th papist
welcome to everybody that will be going to FUS. there is a large chance that you will love it. Raphael and Tarcisius, take this somewhere else- look at the thread tittle. we should be getting people excitied about going to a school with strong catholic values, not judging eachother and debating if the school is any good. i can answer that question. it is good. so go someplace else. Peace Edited June 21, 2006 by the 13th papist
Lil Red
I don't understand why there are so many attacks on FUS in the first place.
i just get tired of hearing about FUS (and Texas too, but that's another thread) on phatmass all the time. there are other orthodox Catholic colleges in the U.S. and btw, this is getting moved if you and Tarcisius don't stop debating. make a new thread in the debate table. I hope I get that and my schedule soon, since I didnt go to any of the University Days. ~Chris (P.S I was afraid I wasn't gonna have any fun at FUS discussing Catholicism..............HAHAHAHAHAHA)

If you're quiet and don't have a conflict with strict rules...and really want air-conditioning, try St. Maximilian Kolbe. If you don't mind a little more walking, and need a quieter environment, try Trinity. If you want a room with it's own bathroom and air conditioner, don't mind a short march uphill for school, and like coffee to be available nearby at all times, go with Bonaventure or Scotus. If you want to be off campus but can't live officially "off-campus," and don't mind a rule against alcohol, nor mind living in an older building that has a psych ward and a morgue attached, try Trinity East (where I'll be the RA).
