You think I'm paranoid?

Well I guess Eisenhower was too. He warned us about the military industrial complex, and its willingness and capability to usurp power from the PUBLICLY VISIBLE government's of, not only the US, but OTHER nations as well.

President Eisenhower's farewell address to the nation, January 1961

"In the counsels of Government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the Military Industrial Complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists, and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals so that security and liberty may prosper together."

I don't see how General Eisenhower's farewell has anything to do with the paranoid conspiracy theories you've been deluging upon us.

EDIT: double post

His point is not new or original, but apt for all governments at all times

Look deeper. That's not true. His statement does not apply to all governments at all times. His statement applies to OUR government at THIS time. If he saw no danger, he would not have mentioned it.

Statements from men in positions like Eisenhower are not just "thought up" in some "wow that'd be pretty bad if that happened" moment while writing and thinking at their desks. The kind of thinking that you express in your last post, cmother, often comes from the idea that EVERYBODY who gives a general non-specific warning is doing what the boy did who cried "wolf!" so many times that nobody believed him when he had seen a wolf.

Eisenhower only cried "wolf!" once. And he wasn't a little boy.

I believe this was his final address as president. His administration was known for its strong support for the armed forces, and this address has always seemed a bit odd in light of that.

I'm pretty sure that speech was given to him by one of the many aliens who visited the White House in the 50s.

Why you always beating up on Mother? Does it make you feel big? Her point was men threw out time have said the same things with same concerns, to defend liberty and freedom. She's said nothing close of what you've accused her of, I dont know where you got all that from...

But DW's point must be well taken: nothing is said in a vacuum. If Eisenhower only said something that all wise statesmen always say then he might as well have said nothing.

That said, I have no idea what conspiracy theories DW is talking about. :)
