Carrie
Mass was so beautiful today. The pews were crowded with people celebrating Mary's feastday (even more people than regular sunday Mass). It was wonderful to start the year this way.
the_rev
Wow with 1,000 people in our parish, not even 1/10 of the people went to the holy day of obligation masses!
Ash Wednesday
The Mass was really really incredibly beautiful today. I went to the noon mass at St. James Cathedral in Seattle. I discovered a small room at St. James I had never seen or noticed there before -- it had a statue of the Madonna and child, the entire room had candles covering every wall, and the ceiling had stars painted in some kind of constellation (maybe it was Virgo...?) After I sat down, the priest came up and said hello to me and shook my hand. I could tell he was a really really warm and kind man. An usher came up and asked me if I would help bring up the gifts, along with two other women. Cool! I ended up bringing up the eucharistic wafers. What an honor to be one chosen to do that out of the hundreds of people that were there. After mass there was a woman in the church singing with a really beautiful voice. She was a skinny, somewhat ragged looking woman. She was not too old, probably in her late 30s, and she was blind. She wore a santa hat and rocked back and forth, singing. Someone commented what a nice voice she had and she thanked them and said she "just loved singing to Jesus" -- it really was something else, to see such beauty and devotion in a poor humble person that the world largely doesn't know and ignores for the most part. On the drive home I meditated on the joyful mysteries of the rosary. When I was meditating over the nativity I offered up prayers for the unborn. As I was doing this another car on the freeway passed by me and had the exact same little "protect human life" bumper sticker that I have, silhouetting a young child and an old man's head. Coincidence? I think not! Today was a really, really beautiful blessing of a day.

If I were you, I'd confess it anyway just for the sake of easing my conscience, but I seriously doubt that you sinned here.
