jezic
Wouldn't it also cut Canada into two quite large pieces with a big chunk missing in the middle? That would look funny on a map.

Maria
Hah, like they care. The only canadians in Europe during WWII were the english-speaking ones....
I object! What about the Royal 22nd (the 'Van Doos')? Georges Vanier, future govenor general of Canada, and father of Jean Vanier, fought in that regiment. In other news, the french were the first to call themselves Canadian, not all quebecois want to separate, Quebec is one of the provinces that receives the most federal funding (so I can't really see it going alone), and it's more liberal than the rest of the country. As well, it would be mistaken to say that the rest of the country is WASP. As it is, the french Canadians in other provinces are feeling kind of left out. And that's not mentioning the other immigrant groups. Besides, I'm Canadian as well as Québécoise. And I don't want anyone to have to make me choose between the two. ruso
The supporters of independence of Quebec have lost up to now two consultations on the independence, the heart in Montreal but the money in Toronto, i suppose.
Maria
Robbi, Québec is a city (where the Eucharistic Congress will be held in 2008, the 400th anniversary of its founding), but the province that it is in is also called Québec. In French you'd say that you go "à Québec" when going to the city, and "en Québec" referring to the province.

God Conquers
Alright... reading this is angering me a bit, mostly because there are some Canadians who are giving up on Quebec. Quebec is the heartland of Canada. Passion, history and faith still reside there. They are on the cusp of a resurgence of faith. For all those ignorants out there: Quebec, although seemingly "liberal" right now is at a turning point. The socialist separatist party is only TWO points ahead of the conservative party in federal politics in quebec right now... that is a HUGE shift. Quebec does not truly want to separate. They want to be acknowledged as an important part in this country, which they are and always will be. If you are Canadian, pray for Quebec. St. Peter says to return a curse with a blessing, so if you think you've been wronged... pray harder. My family is anglophone-quebecois qui vient d'Irlande il y a longtemps. I love Quebec. I also live in Ottawa, on the border of Quebec and Ontario.. so thanks to all those who'd love to see "a bloody civil war" which would kill my family. homeschoolmom
Personally, I think they should try (though I'm not sure their secession would succeed ). I just like the idea of a bloody Canadian civil war - it would be an amusing diversion.
Really? You think Canadians killing one another is amusing? I'm sure our Canadian phatmass brethren would disagree. I know I do.

Part of the humor was that Canadians would never actually have a bloody civil war over this.
