she_who_is_not
There are Poor Clares in Greenville SC. I was going to do a retreat with them last year but couldn't. I don't know how Orthodox they are but I think they wear a modified habit. They have a website. www.poorclaresc.com.
Marieteresa
Schenectady and Pittsford Carmel merged last year so now they are all at Schenectady. Also FYI there are a few Carmels that have more than 21 sisters.....They have to obtain permission from the Holy See to be able to have more sisters.
Sorry my bad Schenectady and Pittsford merged and now at PITTSFORD not Schenectady! Sorry
Deborah
Deborah] 8:25 pm: I have noticed that there is usually no mention about Visitation Nuns on this site. Well, they are out there. They now consist of two Federations. The First Federation are cloistered nuns. They retain the traditional habit. The community I am most familiar with is located in Tyringham, MA. Their web site is www.vistyr.org [Deborah] 8:26 pm: The Novice Mistress is Sister Alice Marie. [Deborah] 8:27 pm: If I knew how to do it, I could attach pictures of their monastery and of the recent ceremony of Solemn Profession of Sr Bernadette Therese, VHM. Can anyone out there help me? I know there used to be one in New York City or thereabouts (NOT the Second Federation Brooklyn monastery--I'm talking a First Federation monastery). When did this happen? jkaands
Mr. Zak has me looking for all sorts of contemplative communties to be prayer warriors for the Here I Am Lord conferences... I think I may have a list of just about every Discalced Carmel in the US, all of the Trappists/Cisternians, Cathursians, Sister Adorers of the Precious Blood, along with a good number of Benedictines, Poor Clares, Dominicans, and a number of other smaller orders. I think I will list the communities and the name of the abbey/monastery/whatever (if I have it) and location so you all can tell me what communities are faithful and orthodox (or not...) and if I am missing any that should be there! (A major thanks to Gemma and her site; it helped big time with this!) Okay… *gulp* here it goes!
